On April 16, 2024, San Diego County Sheriff's deputies initiated a pursuit of a vehicle suspected to be involved in a carjacking incident. The chase began in San Diego County and extended into Riverside County before the suspect's vehicle crashed near Deer Springs Road in San Marcos. As deputies approached the vehicle, the male suspect died by suicide. The identity of the individual has not been disclosed. No deputies were injured during the incident. The San Diego County Sheriff's Department is conducting an internal review, and the Medical Examiner's Office is investigating the exact cause of death.
