A family dispute escalated to fatal events in which a man killed his father under unknown circumstances. The man chose a desperate path of fleeing from police, allegedly tried to steal or hijack a vehicle and failed, tried to run and hide in a school building and failed, was located by police which caused him to flee even harder, successfully hijack a vehicle which was inadvertently caused by police. This occurred when a motorist saw police lights and sirens behind him and pulled over for police. When pulled over, the hijacker saw the man who had pulled over for police sirens on the side of the road in the car, jumped into the car and at gunpoint forced the man out and drove away. The man was hunted into a dead end by police, allegedly got out with a fun and police shot and killed him.
This was not a random crime but the result of a violent family dispute. The man definitely needed to be stopped and dealt with after a family homicide. But this was done in such a manner as to greatly jeopardize the general public with high-speed chases, aggressive foot chases that nearly landed in a school and a carjacked bystander, also the direct result of the aggressive police chase. This man was not likely a danger to the public as his offense was family-related and should have been tried to be arrested at a time and place, even hours later elsewhere, where this did not present such a risk to the population of greater Houston. It is fortunate that only one person died in this dangerous chase and shootout in an urban area.
