On October 23, 2024, Polk County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a domestic disturbance involving 41-year-old Adayn Rodriguez at a residence on the 2000 block of Slocumb Road in Haines City, Florida. Rodriguez had allegedly threatened to harm himself and his wife, Karla Rodriguez, during a mental health crisis. Deputies escalated the situation into a standoff that lasted several hours, during which Rodriguez retreated inside the residence.

Deputies reported that Rodriguez pointed a weapon at them multiple times during the encounter. After negotiation efforts failed, deputies entered the home and discovered that Rodriguez had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His wife, Karla Rodriguez, was also found deceased inside the home under unclear circumstances, and an investigation into her death is ongoing.
