OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 08/05/2024, Ogden Police responded to Haven Point Apartments at 2265 South 1100 West after receiving reports of a suicidal man armed with a bladed instrument. Officers attempted to negotiate with 62-year-old Bryon Reese Tomney and directed him to surrender. During the encounter, Tomney remained armed and threatened to harm himself. He then inflicted a fatal self-inflicted injury before officers were able to take him into custody. Emergency medical personnel responded, but Tomney died at the scene. The Weber County Critical Incident Team investigated the incident. Publicly available records have not identified the officers involved, and no criminal charges or disciplinary findings related to the incident have been publicly announced.
