OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On October 28, 2024, Houston police responded to a kidnapping report involving a man who had forcibly taken his wife and child. Police located his vehicle on the Southwest Freeway, and when the man briefly stopped, he fired shots at officers. A short pursuit followed, and officers performed a PIT maneuver to disable the vehicle. As they approached, fearing for the safety of the woman and child, officers opened fire, fatally shooting the man. The woman and child were unharmed. The incident is being investigated by the HPD's Homicide Division, Internal Affairs, and the Harris County District Attorney's Office
