Campbell County escalated a chase that ended when Cassie Miller crashed her vehicle after fleeing from deputies attempting a traffic stop. The chase began around 1:20 p.m. in the Valley View area. Miller drove the vehicle off the road on Howard Road, hitting a tree. She died at the scene, and the 55-year-old male passenger sustained injuries but was not charged. Jacob Austin Hikes, 31, was involved in a series of violent incidents on November 6, 2024, in which he shot his brother before fleeing. The shooting occurred around 4:30 p.m. in Lenawee County. Hikes was tracked by police after the shooting and later led officers on a high-speed chase in Jackson, during which gunfire was exchanged. Hikes was also reportedly seen discarding pipe bombs from his vehicle during the pursuit. At around 5:41 p.m., a Jackson Police sergeant was shot in the arm during the chase. Police shot and killed him.The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the fatal shooting.
