Kansas City police pursued Terry J. Lewis Jr. after he failed to stop for a traffic violation. The high-speed chase spanned several highways, including I-70 and Highway 40, before ending near an exit ramp where Lewis collided head-on with a pursuing Independence police vehicle while driving the wrong way. Lewis was pronounced dead at the scene. The speed during the chase has not been disclosed. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
