On November 6, 2024, Tampa Police officers initiated an operation to apprehend Michael Shaheen, a 28-year-old individual identified as a suspect in a November 1 shooting on East Hillsborough Avenue. Police observed Shaheen at his residence and attempted to detain him during a traffic stop. Shaheen refused multiple commands to exit his vehicle, prompting the deployment of the Tampa Police SWAT team.

For over three hours, negotiators engaged with Shaheen while he remained locked inside his vehicle and ceased communication. SWAT officers approached and found him with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
