On November 5, 2024, after a domestic shooting, Rene Contreras engaged in a standoff with Greenville County deputies. After several hours of negotiation, SWAT officers shot and killed him. Two deputies were placed on administrative leave. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is investigating the incident.
