Chicago Police Officer Enrique Martinez, 26, was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Chatham on November 4, 2024. During the stop, Martinez and his partner were speaking with the vehicle's driver when a passenger, Darion McMillian, allegedly reached for a bag on the floor. Despite warnings, McMillian reportedly fired a fully automatic weapon equipped with an illegal machine-gun conversion device, fatally shooting Martinez. Police returned fire, killing another individual in the vehicle, while McMillian fled the scene and was later arrested. McMillian faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder of a police officer and unlawful use of a weapon. this case is being investigated internally by Chicago Police Department.
