On November 8, 2024, Donna Chimeno, a 60-year-old woman, was killed in a crash involving an off-duty deputy from the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office. The deputy, driving an unmarked vehicle, was involved in a multi-vehicle incident on Nelson Road. The collision began when Chimeno’s car was struck from behind by a Jeep Cherokee, which caused her vehicle to cross the centerline and be hit head-on by a delivery van. The authorities have not disclosed whether the deputy was directly involved in the crash but are investigating the incident further.
