Christopher Farrell, a 26-year-old former security guard, fatally shot Rachael Martinez and Jose Medina, who were in their car near the San Diego Courthouse. The couple had recently sought a restraining order against Farrell. After fleeing the scene, Farrell was pursued by police and later encountered hiding behind an electrical box. Police escalated the situation, leading Farrell to fire at officers, resulting in a gunfight in which he was killed. Farrell had been previously arrested on charges including domestic violence in relation to his prior relationship with Martinez.
