At around 6:30 p.m., Officer Rich Wong, who was part of a team investigating the robberies, spotted Worthy, who matched the given description. When the officers attempted to stop him, Worthy fled on foot, producing a gun as he ran. After refusing to comply with commands to drop the weapon, Worthy fired at the officers, hitting Officer Wong in the leg. Wong returned fire, shooting Worthy in the face, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
