On November 23, 2024, a Washington State Patrol trooper attempted to pull over a speeding Lexus sedan on State Route 7 in Parkland. The driver of the Lexus, a 24-year-old man from Tacoma, fled the scene and continued driving until he lost control and collided with a pickup truck. The passenger in the Lexus, a 50-year-old man from Graham, was killed at the scene. The pickup driver, a 44-year-old man from Tacoma, was seriously injured. The driver under pursuit was also hospitalized with injuries.
