On 05/28/2024, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers initiated a pursuit of 19-year-old Isaac Elias Muratalla for speeding. Muratalla, driving a Lexus, fled from officers and lost control of the vehicle on the transition road from the Long Beach Freeway to the San Diego Freeway. The Lexus veered off the road, overturned, and struck a tree, resulting in Muratalla's death at the scene.
