REASON FOR CHASE: Speeding and driving without headlights.

NARRATIVE: On 12/08/2023, 4-year-old Mason Orozco-Romero was killed when a BMW fleeing San Diego Police Department officers crashed into the vehicle in which he was riding near the Interstate 805 off-ramp at 43rd Street. Police attempted to stop the BMW after observing it speeding and traveling without headlights. The driver fled at speeds reported around 100 mph before crashing into the vehicle carrying Mason, his 8-year-old brother Malikai and their mother. Mason and Malikai were killed. The case later became a focus of public complaints and official examination of San Diego police pursuit policy.
