On 12/05/2024, at approximately 10:16 p.m., Franklin Police Department officers responded to a report of shoplifting at the Ingles Supermarket on Georgia Road in Franklin. Officers approached a female suspect in the parking lot, who locked her vehicle doors. She then left the parking lot in her vehicle. Franklin Police escalated a chase involving both Franklin Police and the Macon County Sheriff's Office. Police chased the vehicle onto Georgia Road and eventually onto Wide Horizon Drive, where the driver under pursuit lost control of the vehicle, veered off the roadway, and struck a tree. She was pronounced deceased at the crash site.
