On 12/07/2024, Keokuk Police Department officers were called to a home in the 1500 block of Johnson Street after a disturbance report. Police said they learned Josh L. Helmick was inside alone after other residents left. Police said they received information that Helmick had access to a firearm and that he made threats toward law enforcement. Police said officers tried to contact him but could not, and later said they did not see indicators that he was still inside. Police said they left to avoid escalation because they did not believe there was an ongoing threat to the public or to others connected to the home.
