Florence County Deputy Treyvon Sellers chased William Rankin by vehicle until Rankin crashed into a tree. Rankin ran into a nearby home. Officer Sellers followed, unleashed his K9 that also ran into the house and attacked the surprised homeowner, 72-year-old Johnny Cooper who was in his home on an oxygen tank, while Deputy Sellers fired 5 shots into the unarmed Rankin seeking refuge in the home.

Officer Sellers was fired the following month, not for this incident but a new domestic violence event instead. He was charged with voluntary manslaughter in the death of Rankin. The condition of the homeowner attacked in his home by the police dog is unknown. He had been mauled for 87 seconds in his home. Mr. Cooper is allegedly permanently disfigured from the dog attack.

Deputy Sellers was charged with manslaughter in August of 2024.

On 05/26/2024, officers from the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (JSO) responded to an incident in the Brentwood area of Jacksonville, Florida, where 30-year-old Ray Anthony Ross was reportedly seen firing into a car. Officer Brian L. Rone engaged Ross in a shootout, during which Ross was shot and killed by police gunfire. The exchange of gunfire also resulted in a stray bullet striking a nearby house. Authorities have not disclosed whether anyone else was injured. The incident remains under investigation to assess the circumstances surrounding the shooting and the officers' actions.

On May 25, 2024, at approximately 3:30 p.m., Michigan State Police troopers responded to reports of a man acting erratically at a residence in the 2000 block of Skeels Road in Otto Township, Oceana County. Upon arrival, troopers observed 44-year-old Jonathan David Jurecki walking near the intersection of Skeels Road and Nichols Road. Upon noticing the officers, Jurecki fled into a wooded area and re-emerged carrying a device with visible wires, claiming it was a bomb and threatening to "kill everybody." Troopers established a perimeter, evacuated nearby residents, and requested assistance from the MSP Grand Rapids Post, MSP Bomb Squad, and the Emergency Support Team (EST). Negotiators engaged with Jurecki for several hours in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. During the standoff, Jurecki made movements perceived as a threat, prompting an EST member to discharge a rifle, fatally wounding him. Subsequent examination by the MSP Bomb Squad determined that the device was a hoax and did not contain any explosive materials.
