OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 08/30/2023, Cleveland County Sheriff's Office Deputy Jordan Pyle Cannon, 40, was shot and killed inside her home in the 10900 block of Southwest 30th Street in Oklahoma City. Her husband, Cleveland County Sheriff's Office Deputy Vaughn Cannon, was arrested for killing her. Both worked for the same sheriff's office.
.
Oklahoma City police responded to the home at approximately 1:50 a.m. after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance. Police found Jordan Cannon dead inside the residence. Vaughn Cannon was taken into custody at the scene. Investigators recovered a firearm and initially booked him into the Canadian County Detention Center on a complaint of first-degree murder.
.
Jordan Cannon had been shot multiple times. The Oklahoma Medical Examiner subsequently determined that she sustained three gunshot wounds to the head. Her death was ruled a homicide.
.
The medical examiner's report documented that Jordan had alcohol in her system and that Vaughn Cannon told investigators the couple had been drinking before the killing. Cannon alleged that an argument occurred and claimed Jordan had struck him. Investigators documented a small cut above his eye. These claims originated with Cannon and were not established by the medical examiner as justification for the shooting.
.
Vaughn Cannon was himself a Cleveland County sheriff's deputy at the time he killed Jordan. The sheriff's office placed him on administrative leave immediately after his arrest and subsequently terminated his employment. Jordan had served with the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office for approximately two years and had previously worked as a school resource officer.
.
Jordan Cannon was remembered by colleagues and friends as a deputy who had worked extensively with young people. Before becoming a deputy, she worked for the Oklahoma Office of Juvenile Affairs and later served as a school resource officer at Little Axe Public Schools. She was the mother of three children.
.
The case was prosecuted in Canadian County. Vaughn Cannon was originally charged with first-degree murder. In February 2024, a judge ordered him to stand trial after a preliminary hearing.
.
In October 2024, Cannon entered a guilty plea to a reduced charge of second-degree murder. As part of the plea, he admitted killing Jordan. The plea eliminated the need for a murder trial.
.
On 12/13/2024, Canadian County District Judge Paul Hesse sentenced Vaughn Cannon to 30 years in prison, with the final five years suspended. He therefore received a 25-year term of incarceration followed by five years of suspended sentence.
.
Jordan's family addressed the court at sentencing. Her mother described the profound impact of the killing on Jordan's children and family. The sentencing concluded the criminal prosecution approximately 15 months after her death.
OFFICER BACKGROUND:
Vaughn Cannon was a Cleveland County Sheriff's Office deputy when he murdered Jordan Cannon. The sheriff's office terminated him after his arrest. His law-enforcement status is directly relevant to this record because this was not a civilian domestic homicide involving a victim who happened to be a deputy; the person who committed the homicide was himself an active sheriff's deputy.
.
Cannon ultimately admitted criminal responsibility by pleading guilty to second-degree murder. He was sentenced to 30 years, with five years suspended, leaving 25 years to serve in prison.
