OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On December 10, 2024, the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a wanted person at a motel in the 6000 block of Avenue A. Upon arrival, the man locked himself inside a motel room. Deputies attempted to make contact, but he fired a weapon from within the room, prompting the deployment of the SWAT team. Negotiators tried to establish communication; however, the man fired additional shots, including one that struck an armored vehicle. An officer then opened fire, resulting in the man's death. The Texas Rangers are reviewing the incident.
