OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On 12/13/2024, Colorado Springs Police officers were sent to a report of a suicidal man near the 3800 block of Astrozon Boulevard. Upon arrival, officers encountered an adult male in a vehicle with a handgun. Officers contained him at the location, amassed numerous officers, K9s and police surrounded him and pressured him for 45 minutes. Officers fired beanbags at him. He emerged from his truck with a gun to his head. When he was hit by beanbag rounds, he fired 2 rounds in the general direction of police after being hit. He was shot by dozens of police bullets by 8 officers and died. Three of the eight shooter officers were involved in a combined total of 4 prior shootings before shooting Dean Ackerman. Officer Nicholas Cassalia:
May 2024 Incident: Officer Cassalia was involved in a shooting on May 18, 2024, where a man named Michael Hurst was shot after reportedly threatening officers with a firearm. Hurst later died at the hospital.

September 2024 Incident: On September 3, 2024, Officer Cassalia was involved in a fatal shooting at a Walmart on East Platte Avenue. The victim, identified as 29-year-old Tyler Jacob Ben, allegedly pulled a handgun during a confrontation and was shot by Officer Cassalia.

Officer Noah Bartron:
October 2024 Incident: Officer Bartron was involved in a shooting on October 7, 2024, in the Stetson Hills area. The victim, identified as 41-year-old Matthew D. Kemper, allegedly charged at officers with a knife and was subsequently shot.

Officer Steven Nelson:
February 2023 Incident: Officer Nelson was involved in a shooting on February 6, 2023, at The Grove Apartments. The victim, identified as 44-year-old Evan Wollert, allegedly threatened officers with a shotgun and was shot after failing to comply with commands.
