During the chase, Randle shot and killed a police K9. Officer Allen Averbeck then fired, killing Randle. Details regarding the circumstances leading to the encounter remain undisclosed.

On August 21, 2024, U.S. Marshals and the Rockdale County Sheriff's Office attempted to serve felony warrants on 52-year-old Timothy Lamar Crowe, who was wanted for the murder of 35-year-old Callie Brooke Goolsby in Crawford County, Georgia. Upon their arrival, Crow locked himself inside a residence. Police initiated a standoff that lasted several hours. During this time, law enforcement deployed standard SWAT tactics, including the use of flashbangs and tear gas, in an effort to compel Crowe to surrender. After several hours of SWAT pressure, Crowe was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when officers eventually entered the premises.

The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office received a call about a domestic violence. They arrived on Anders Road in Pittstown and found an injured woman. The man who had assaulted her had fled. New York State Police were called and the man was finally located 300 yards away from the home, having died from suicide under police duress.

Elyria police thought they saw a “hand-to-hand drug transaction” through a vehicle and took up chase. Police escalated to pursuit until the fleeing vehicle crashed into a bystander vehicle in an intersection. Two passengers of the car being chased were killed while the driver and another passenger were injured. The driver of the vehicle that was hit was also transported to the hospital in unknown condition.

On August 22, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., a Georgia State Patrol (GSP) trooper observed Kevin James Kennedy operating a blue four-wheeler on State Road 33 near Lanier Road in Moultrie, Georgia. The trooper, aware of recent thefts and burglaries involving a similar vehicle, initiated a traffic stop. Kennedy failed to comply. The trooper chased him through fields, ditches and back onto the highway. During the chase, the patrol vehicle collided with Kennedy, causing his four-wheeler to overturn. He then tried to run on foot. The trooper deployed a K9 unit that mauled his neck severely. The trooper handcuffed Kennedy and immediately requested medical assistance upon noticing the severity of the K9 bite. Emergency Medical Services arrived, and Kennedy was transported to a hospital in Macon. He died from his injuries on August 27, 2024. His family attributes his death to only the blood loss and severe neck injury from the dog mauling. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an inquiry into the death.

An El Paso Independence School District officer shot and killed a man in his 50s on school campus.

On 8/22/2024, it was reported that the man shot and killed was retired 54-year-old FBI agent Julio Cordero whose son was a senior at the school.

FBI agent Cordero had a long and distinguished career, notably bringing about more than 40 convictions of prominent El Paso citizens involved in massive public corruption. He suffered PTSD and was known to have mental health crises as well and retired. Lengthy descriptions of his life and struggles are enclosed in the links below. Police have not spoken to the family or explained the events as of 8/25/2024.

Chester County deputies chased a man who refused a traffic stop. Police alleged that he pointed a weapon. Police fired shots at him. The man fled and police chased him at high speed through McNairy County into Hardin County. After an hour-long chase, the man drove down a boat ramp and drove the vehicle into the water. Police say that he “showed” a weapon police did not attempt to follow him into the water and found him dead later.

On August 22, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., deputies from the Polk County Sheriff's Office responded to a call about 45-year-old Matthew Bruce Coleman, who was wanted on an active warrant. When officers arrived at West Socrum Loop Road in Lakeland, they were met with gunfire coming from a shed. Deputies established a perimeter and attempted communication with Coleman, but when he stopped responding, a chemical agent was deployed. Upon entry into the shed, deputies found Coleman deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, with two loaded handguns and several shell casings nearby.

On August 21, 2024, at approximately 4:25 a.m., Hialeah Police responded to a domestic violence incident at a residence on West 42nd Place and West 5th Court. When officers arrived, they found 30-year-old Alex Gonzalez Jr. had fatally stabbed his mother, Madeline Gonzalez, and injured his 17-year-old sister, Amanda Gonzalez, and 69-year-old grandmother, Rosa Gonzalez. Police confronted Gonzalez Jr., and officers fired, killing him at the scene. Madeline Gonzalez died from her injuries, while the other two women survived. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the incident.

On August 18, 2024, at approximately 4 p.m., Bartow County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Wesley Mill Drive in Adairsville, Georgia. Chris Cochran, 60, had allegedly made death threats against his wife and a crisis intervention team that was present to assist. Cochran's wife and the intervention team sought refuge in a neighbor's home across the street, where deputies provided protection. Cochran, known to possess a significant number of rifles, retreated into his residence, began breaking windows, and issued further threats to kill those outside.

The Bartow County Sheriff's Office deployed its SWAT team to safely extract the deputies, Cochran's wife, and other civilians, and to apprehend Cochran. During the standoff, Cochran pointed a long gun out of a second-story window and repeatedly threatened SWAT officers, deputies, and witnesses. A SWAT officer discharged their weapon, striking Cochran, who was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bartow County Coroner's Office. No officers or civilians were injured during the incident.

Missouri State trooper reportedly came upon an accident site and saw a man crawling out of the car. Police claim that he held a knife. Police further alleged that they shouted at him to drop the knife and he did not do so. Police shot and killed him. He was 27-year-old Denis Redondo Zelaya from Honduras. Police said they do not know if he spoke English and understood their commands or not.

On August 19, 2024, at approximately 10:30 a.m., deputies from the Haywood County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a suspicious person in the Harmon Den area near the Pisgah National Forest. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Michael Shope, 42, who was reportedly holding a knife.
Shope advanced toward a deputy, prompting an officer-involved shooting. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Paul Green, a 36-year-old male inmate at Allen County Jail in Fort Wayne, Indiana, was found unresponsive in his cell on August 19, 2024. Jail staff discovered Green unresponsive at 2:50 a.m., shortly after he was observed moving in his cell at 2:38 a.m. Green was transported to Lutheran Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The Allen County Coroner determined the cause of death to be peritonitis, an infection often resulting from a perforation in the bowel or a burst appendix. Green had been incarcerated since August 8, 2024, and was on a medical watch list at the time of his death. The Indiana State Police, at the request of the Allen County Sheriff, are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Green's death.

On August 18, 2024, a high-speed pursuit involving a 2012 Acura driven by Lindell Albert Powell led to a crash in Spring Lake, North Carolina. Powell, 25, collided with a Honda Accord, killing the passenger in the Honda. The driver of the Honda was critically injured. Powell was hospitalized in critical condition after the crash. On 08/18/2024, officers from the Chicago Police Department Robbery Task Force heard gunfire near the 1800 block of South Blue Island Avenue and responded to the scene. Upon arrival, police encountered four armed individuals. Officers opened fire, striking Alex Angel Cortez, 16. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other individuals were found nearby, both alive but suffering from gunshot wounds. Police have not disclosed the events leading to the shooting or the identities of the officers involved.

On August 16, 2024, around 9:30 p.m., Massachusetts State Police initiated a pursuit of a pickup truck that was speeding on I-93 northbound. The trooper attempted to stop the vehicle, which exited at Exit 30, prompting the trooper to terminate the chase in accordance with department policy.

Shortly after, the pickup truck collided with a sedan at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Commerce Way, resulting in the death of the pickup truck's driver. The two passengers in the truck were injured, and the driver of the sedan was uninjured. The crash caused significant damage, including a power outage to a nearby apartment building, which was restored after the investigation.

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 6:13 p.m., Paulding County Sheriff's Office deputies, including 30-year-old Deputy Brandon Cunningham, responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence on Foggy Creek Lane in Hiram, Georgia. James Samuel Atkins, 42, ambushed the responding deputies, fatally shooting Deputy Cunningham.

During the incident, Atkins also shot his wife, 52-year-old Kim Thao Vu, as she attempted to flee the home. She was transported to an Atlanta-area hospital in serious but stable condition.

Following the shootings, Atkins locked himself inside the residence. Police escalated to a standoff, which lasted several hours, at which point officers forced entry into the home and discovered Atkins deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. Upon completion, the findings will be submitted to the appropriate judicial authorities for review.

On August 17, 2024, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) attempted to stop a motorcycle driven by 34-year-old Joseph Nehemiah Powell of Orange Park, Florida, for displaying no tag on Interstate 10 in Washington County. Powell fled. Police initiating a high-speed pursuit that reached speeds up to 142 mph. The chase continued into Jackson County, where Powell exited onto State Road 71. Attempting to navigate the exit, he lost control and crashed. Powell was pronounced dead at the scene. The motorcycle was unregistered, uninsured, and Powell lacked a driver's license and motorcycle endorsement, the reasons for the fatal chase. FHP's Traffic Homicide Division is investigating.
