At approximately 2:30 a.m. on March 5, 2021, a Sedgwick County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a motorcyclist, identified as 37-year-old Timothy A. Tatum, for a registration violation near East 47th Street South and Broadview in Wichita, Kansas. Upon activation of the deputy's lights and sirens, Tatum fled eastbound on his Honda Shadow motorcycle. The pursuit lasted about 25 seconds and covered less than a mile. Tatum's motorcycle struck a raised median at the intersection of East 47th Street South and Oliver, resulting in a crash that led to his death at the intersection.
