Meridian PD attempted a traffic stop on 34-year-old Ruben Garcia who was seen driving erratically and without headlights near the corner of Meridian Road and East Central Drive. Police allege that Garcia took off and they began chasing Garcia, also engaging Kuna PD who joined the chase. A Kuna officer put down spike strips and Garcia drove around them, crossed into oncoming traffic and hit a pickup truck. Garcia died. The 28-year-old pickup truck driver, Jonathan Calderon, of Boise, who was taken to a local hospital before being pronounced dead.

Police allege that he lacerated the dog with a knife but an attack on the dog or police is not seen on the video. Instead, White is pulled down and continually bitten by an excited barking Belgian Malinois dog while its handler opens fire on White on the ground, shooting and killing him. Officers said that they saw Cason’s SUV drive through two red lights on Market Street and hit another car that was stopped at the intersection of Market and Lee Streets. Cason’s did not stop after the crash and police attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but Cason refused to stop. Officers called off the chase at the intersection of Oak and Mulberry Street and police soon received a call of a car on fire at Locust and White Oak Road. Officers arrived on the scene and found Cason had crashed into a power pole and was engulfed in flames.
