On 03/18/2021, around 11 a.m., two officers from the Anne Arundel County Police Department were dispatched to a residence in the 7800 block of Bodkin View Drive in Pasadena following a call from a mental health facility to check on a man reported to be suicidal. Upon arrival, the officers entered the home through an unlocked door and encountered Leonard Popa holding a handgun. One of the officers then shot and killed Popa.

On 03/17/2021, at approximately 1: 45 a.m., officers from the Madison Heights Police Department began pursuing a vehicle without a license plate. The pursuit was terminated at the border of Royal Oak. Royal Oak Police Department officers then spotted the same vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver, SouhibZokari, did not stop. Police continued to chase west on 11 Mile Road with speeds exceeding 90 mph untilZokari lost control of his car and crashed into a light pole on the side, killing him.

On March 16, 2021, at approximately 8:27 a.m., Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers observed a green 2010 BMW 528 traveling westbound on Interstate 80 at 94 mph near Lordstown, Ohio. Troopers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver continued driving. Police escalated a chase that exceeded speeds of 100 mph and was temporarily halted during a construction zone. After the vehicle passed the construction area, the chase resumed.

The vehicle continued onto State Route 8 South and then turned west onto Boston Mills Road. Due to the terrain, curved roads, and high speeds, troopers canceled the chase again. The vehicle veered off the left side of the road, struck a guardrail, rolled over, and came to rest partially down an embankment.

Ramon Smith, 22, and Ari'onna Nevaeh Taylor, 16, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital.

On March 15, 2021, the Berks County Department of Emergency Services received a 911 call from a woman reporting that Stephen James Hughes was threatening her with a knife. Muhlenberg Township police responded to the home on the 700 block of Wagon Wheel Lane. After Hughes ignored verbal commands to drop the weapon, an officer fired a Taser. A second officer then opened fire, striking Hughes once in the chest. He was transported to Reading Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. On March 15, 2021, 86-year-old Lois Fay Simmons, a beloved grandmother, mother, and sister, had just left the Food Lion grocery store, where she had been shopping for her family. She was stopped at a traffic light at the intersection of US-1 and Tramway Road in Sanford when deputies initiated a high-speed chase of a teenage driver who refused to stop for a traffic stop.

On March 14, 2021, Yonkers Police Department officers responded to a welfare check for Peter Kastsaridis, 50, at 11 Livingston Street in Yonkers, New York, around 10:45 a.m. Upon arrival, Kastsaridis fired at officers from inside the residence. On 03/14/2021, Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) officers responded to a call involving a family member causing a disturbance at a residence in McLaughlin, South Dakota. Officers confronted Ryan White Mountain-Soft, who was armed with a long gun. Reports indicate that White Mountain-Soft pointed the gun at the officers and ignored their commands to drop the weapon. On 03/12/2021, a standoff occurred at a residence located at 1300 Mayfield Drive in DeWitt Township, Michigan. Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the DeWitt Township Police Department, Bath Township Police Department, Clinton County Sheriff's Office, East Lansing Police Department, Eaton County Sheriff's Office, and Michigan State Police, were involved. Benjamin Price Cotton, 24, had reportedly stabbed his father, causing non-life-threatening injuries. Upon arrival, deputies found that Cotton had locked himself inside the residence. On March 10, 2021, Rochester Police Department officers responded to a report of a man with a knife at the Open Door Mission on 210 W Main Street in Rochester, New York, around 3 a.m. Tyshon Jones, 29, had reportedly taken a knife from the Samaritan House and walked away. On March 10, 2021, at approximately 8:21 p.m., Mansfield police responded to a report of three men fighting on Sycamore Street, with concerns that a woman was being held against her will. En route, officers learned that a man had been struck in the face with a tire iron, and the man had fled in a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck. Officers located the vehicle on Bowman Street, traveling north at high speed. The driver, later identified as Randy Heater, 37, refused to stop and reportedly rammed a police cruiser during the pursuit. The chase continued through rural Richland County, with speeds reaching up to 100 mph. Near Plymouth Springmill Road and Bistline Road, Heater failed to negotiate a curve, causing the vehicle to veer off the road, strike a guardrail, overturn, and eject him. Heater, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Donald White, 44, broke into a residence at 48 Knapp Street in Livermore Falls, Maine, and held three individuals hostage, including his ex-girlfriend, her father, and her new boyfriend. White restrained them with zip ties and threatened them with firearms. During the standoff, he also planted multiple explosive devices in the home.

One of the hostages managed to escape and alerted police. A coordinated response from local, state, and federal law enforcement ensued, involving the Livermore Falls Police Department, Maine State Police, Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office, and the FBI. The remaining two hostages were released, but the standoff continued for 17 hours. It ended when police forcibly entered the home, finding White dead.

Around 7 p.m., Jim Wright's family member reported to the Meade County Sheriff's Office that they were concerned about his welfare. Deputies located Wright near the Clark County and Meade County line. Wright fled in his SUV, and deputies escalated a chase. Spike strips were deployed, and Wright's SUV hit the spike strips and came to a stop. He got out of his vehicle holding a gun. Around 9:40 p.m., officers from various agencies fired shots and killed him.

On 03/08/2021, at approximately 5:20 a.m., Burbank Police Department officers responded to a report of a young child wandering alone in the parking lot of the Quality Inn Burbank Airport, located at 2255 N Buena Vista Street. Officers found a 7-year-old boy sitting on a curb, who stated he was waiting for his stepfather, identified as 30-year-old David William Kahler of Las Vegas.

Investigations revealed that Kahler and the child had been involved in a car accident on the 5 Freeway in a vehicle suspected of being stolen from Las Vegas. After leaving the accident scene, they proceeded to the hotel parking lot. Surveillance footage showed Kahler attempting to enter vehicles that did not belong to him. He later arrived at the hotel in a maroon Honda Accord, also reported stolen from the 2200 block of North Frederic Street.

As officers spoke with the child, Kahler drove up to the hotel. Body camera footage shows the child running to the vehicle and getting inside. Kahler allegedly drew a weapon and pointed it at one of the officers. The officer fired three shots, striking Kahler. The child was unharmed and taken into protective custody. A loaded 9mm semiautomatic handgun, reported stolen from Las Vegas, was recovered at the scene.
Kahler was transported to a nearby trauma center, where he succumbed to his injuries. At the time of his death, Kahler was on probation in Nevada and had an extensive criminal history, including burglary while in possession of a firearm, domestic violence, narcotics violations, and theft.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation into the officer-involved shooting, with cooperation from the Burbank Police Department.

On March 6, 2021, at approximately 2:30 a.m., Valley Brook Police attempted to stop a vehicle on Southeast 59th Street and Shields Boulevard. The driverdid not stop. Police escalated a chase that ended when he crossed shields Boulevard and collided with two other vehicles.

The crash resulted in the death of Derrick Dewayne Alexander, as well as injuries to others. A passenger from one of the other vehicles was transported to a local hospital in critical condition and later died.Lujan was remembered as a kindhearted individual who had taken custody of his 12-year-old brother three years prior.

On 03/05/2021, the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) responded to a report of an armed individual inside the Old No. 77 Hotel at 535 Tchoupitoulas Street in New Orleans, Louisiana. Police alleged the individual was involved in a hit-and-run incident in Jefferson Parish earlier that day and was reportedly armed and suicidal.

On 03/05/2021, police in Maple Plain attempted to pull a man over for speeding and driving erratically. The man continued driving, passing through multiple jurisdictions before being knocked off the road by a Ramsey County sheriff deputy at North McKnight Road. At approximately 2:30 a.m. on March 5, 2021, a Sedgwick County Sheriff's deputy attempted to stop a motorcyclist, identified as 37-year-old Timothy A. Tatum, for a registration violation near East 47th Street South and Broadview in Wichita, Kansas. Upon activation of the deputy's lights and sirens, Tatum fled eastbound on his Honda Shadow motorcycle. The pursuit lasted about 25 seconds and covered less than a mile. Tatum's motorcycle struck a raised median at the intersection of East 47th Street South and Oliver, resulting in a crash that led to his death at the intersection.

On 03/03/2021, the Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office responded to the 1300 block of Greene Avenue in Abbeville, Louisiana, for a disturbance call. Police encountered Dwight Brown, 41, and engaged in an altercation. During the fight, police opened fire and killed Brown. The circumstances leading to the fatal shooting have not been disclosed. On 03/01/2021, Chandra Moore, a 55-year-old male, was the subject of an arrest warrant issued by Cincinnati police for the shooting of five people in Cincinnati on February 28, 2021, resulting in the deaths of his wife and two others. After fleeing to Detroit, Moore was located at the Rivertown Inn & Suites. The Detroit Police Department, aware of his location, set up surveillance and waited for him to leave the motel. At approximately 9: 50 a.m., Moore exited the building and approached his car. Upon noticing the police presence, he allegedly opened fire on the officers. In response, the officers returned fire, killing Moore. This incident followed Moore's flight from Cincinnati where he was involved in a mass shooting incident.

After failing to steal one vehicle, they successfully stole another. A Muskogee Police Department officer spotted the stolen vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver refused to pull over. Police escalated the situation into a pursuit, which ended in a crash.

On February 27, 2021, at approximately 11:00 p.m., a Kentucky State Police trooper conducted a traffic stop in the community of Malone, Kentucky. During the stop, the trooper requested assistance from the Morgan County Sheriff's Department and the West Liberty Police Department. Jerry Lynn Roseberry, a 48-year-old man, exited the vehicle with a firearm and refused commands to drop the weapon. A West Liberty police officer opened fire, striking Roseberry. He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Morgan County Coroner. The Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team is investigating the shooting.

On February 26, 2021, Kalispell Police responded to reports of a red SUV ramming multiple vehicles. The vehicle was found unoccupied at a gas station. Isaiah Strong allegedly assaulted Officer Brady Gray inside the gas station after emerging from the bathroom, using a wooden object to strike her. He then attacked another individual in the store before assaulting the officer again, hitting her in the upper body and head.
