OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On August 8, 2021, at approximately 9:18 p.m., Baltimore Police Department officers responded to a residence in the 6000 block of Alta Avenue in Northeast Baltimore following reports of an assault involving an armed individual experiencing a mental health crisis.
Police negotiators engaged with Marcus Martin for several hours, during which time he threatened to shoot anyone who approached the house. He was observed with a weapon. At approximately 3:19 a.m. on August 9, 2021, unspecified tactical measures were implemented by the SWAT team. In response, Martin fired a shotgun. Officer Jeffery Archambault, positioned nearby, discharged his firearm, striking Martin. He was pronounced dead in his home.
The Baltimore Police Department's Special Investigation Response Team is conducting an internal investigation into the shooting, with oversight from the State's Attorney's Office. Officer Archambault has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
