OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On 04/04/2021, Michigan State Police troopers were conducting a welfare check at around 8 p.m. when they discovered a 62-year-old woman dead from an apparent homicide in her home in Lake Township. The house was empty except for the victim at the time of discovery. Through investigation, troopers identified a man, Adam Briggs, a 30-year-old relative of the victim. A broadcast alert was issued for Briggs. Shortly after 1 a.m., the Cadillac Police Department spotted the vehicle associated with Briggs and attempted a traffic stop. Briggs did not stop. Police escalated a with multiple agencies. During the chase, Briggs allegedly fired shots at the pursuing officers. No one was hit. Missaukee County Sheriff's deputies used stop sticks to disable Briggs' vehicle. Briggs then ran away on foot. His body was found shortly after 6 a.m. with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, confirming his death as a suicide.
