On 04/05/2021, around 3 p.m., a crash occurred at Union Road and Oak Road in Buena Vista, New Jersey. Franklin Township police officers responded to the scene along with local Buena Vista authorities. During the response, Roy Kenneth Jackel Jr., 41, allegedly entered a Franklin Township police cruiser and drove away. Officers pursued the stolen vehicle until it crashed. On 04/04/2021, Michigan State Police troopers were conducting a welfare check at around 8 p.m. when they discovered a 62-year-old woman dead from an apparent homicide in her home in Lake Township. The house was empty except for the victim at the time of discovery. Through investigation, troopers identified a man, Adam Briggs, a 30-year-old relative of the victim. A broadcast alert was issued for Briggs. Shortly after 1 a.m., the Cadillac Police Department spotted the vehicle associated with Briggs and attempted a traffic stop. Briggs did not stop. Police escalated a with multiple agencies. During the chase, Briggs allegedly fired shots at the pursuing officers. No one was hit. Missaukee County Sheriff's deputies used stop sticks to disable Briggs' vehicle. Briggs then ran away on foot. His body was found shortly after 6 a.m. with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, confirming his death as a suicide.

On April 4, 2021, Michael Ray Wagner, a 47-year-old white male from Geneva, Indiana, was killed during a police chase in Shelbyville, Kentucky. After reports that Wagner had stopped his vehicle on the roadway and pointed a gun at another motorist, officers located him. He drove eastbound on Frankfort Road (US-60), and police escalated a high-speed chase. Approximately two to three miles into the pursuit, Wagner lost control of his 1999 Pontiac Firebird near the intersection of US-60 and Ski Area Road. He crashed, was ejected, and was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Shelby County Coroner.

Gabriel Casso, 21, was running toward New York City Police officers while being pursued by two unidentified men near East 166th Street and Findlay Avenue in the Bronx on April 3, 2021. Police opened fire during the encounter, resulting in Casso being fatally shot. Around 3:30 a.m., Corvallis Police responded to a call from the Days Inn motel staff reporting a man acting aggressively with a knife. Officers encountered Jeffrey W. Appelt, 32, who reportedly had a knife. An officer fired a Taser, but Appelt retreated toward the motel entrance. A second officer attempted to take him into custody, but Appelt evaded the officer. As a third officer arrived, Appelt continued approaching while holding the knife. Officer Daniel Granillo then shot and killed Appelt.

On April 2, 2021, at approximately 5:15 a.m., Long Beach Police Department officers responded to a 911 call reporting a man who appeared to have had a heart attack and a woman threatening suicide at a residence in the 2800 block of Golden Avenue. Upon arrival, officers observed a large amount of blood inside the residence and were immediately confronted by 38-year-old Lauren Nicole Archibeque, who was armed with a rifle. Officers quickly exited the residence, set up a perimeter, and attempted to de-escalate the situation by making repeated attempts to communicate with Archibeque, urging her to surrender. She did not respond.

After some time, Archibeque emerged at the doorway of the residence, and officers observed her pointing the rifle at them. At that point, three officers discharged their firearms, fatally wounding her. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Upon re-entering the residence, officers discovered a 49-year-old man on a bedroom floor with a serious laceration to his neck. He was also pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office later determined that the man's death was a suicide.

The Long Beach Police Department is conducting a full and thorough multi-level review of the incident, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent investigation, as is standard protocol for officer-involved shootings resulting in injury or death. On April 2, 2021, around 10:13 p.m., a deputy from the Person County Sheriff's Office responded to an incomplete 911 call at a residence in the 1300 block of Clay Long Road in Hurdle Mills, North Carolina. Upon arrival, the deputy encountered Jackie Cameron Capps, 58, holding three people hostage at gunpoint.
The deputy called for backup and ordered Capps to drop his weapon. Capps refused and allegedly pointed the firearm at the hostages. The deputy discharged their weapon, fatally shooting Capps. The Person County Sheriff's Office is investigating the circumstances of the shooting.

Vinetta Martin, a Black female, died by suicide on April 2, 2021, while in custody at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, California. Deputies were required to check on her every 30 minutes in Housing Unit 24 pod F-2 but failed to do so. A deputy’s logbook falsely recorded the checks, but body camera surveillance showed Martin was not monitored as required. The Alameda County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances surrounding her death.

Around 6:30 p.m., Salem Police officers responded to a report of a suicidal man who had injured himself. Firefighters arrived first, and Natzeryt Layahoshua Viertel allegedly threatened them with a firearm. When police arrived, Viertel was still seen with the gun. An officer opened fire, killing him. A Marion County grand jury later found that the police shooting was a lawful and justified use of deadly force.

On 03/31/2021, police responded to a home at 247 Sullivan Street in Claremont, New Hampshire, following reports of gunshots being fired. Jeffrey Ely had barricaded himself inside the residence. After an extended standoff, gunfire was exchanged between Ely and New Hampshire State Police. Troopers Nicholas Cyr, Stefan Czyzowski, Gary Ingham, Shane Larkin, William Neilsen, and Noah Sanctuary fired at Ely, who was subsequently killed. Officer Noah Sanctuary had been involved in a previous shooting incident in February of 2022. Upon arrival, officers encountered 30-year-old Billy Ray Hill, who reportedly fled on foot but was apprehended by police after a brief chase. Details of the arrest are unknown. After the arrest, Hill became unconscious and died shortly thereafter.

The Louisiana State Police conducted an investigation into the incident. The Bossier Parish Coroner's Office performed an autopsy, which indicated no external or internal injuries or diseases. On 03/29/2021, at approximately 3:50 a.m., LAPD officers attempted to stop Matthew Blaylock near 7th and Bixel Streets. Blaylock fled on foot, and officers escalated a chase that ended near 8th and Bixel Streets, where Blaylock allegedly produced a handgun. Officers opened fire, killing him. A handgun was recovered at the scene. Body camera footage of the incident has been released and is under review. The LAPD's Force Investigation Division is investigating the shooting, and the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office will review the case.

On March 29, 2021, at approximately 4:30 p.m., Deputy Justin Conley of the Fleming County Sheriff's Office observed a vehicle on Kentucky Route 11 near Maysville, Kentucky, with a male driver and a female passenger who appeared to be involved in a physical altercation. Deputy Conley attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the driver, 48-year-old Terry Darnell Jackson, exited the vehicle and fled on foot into a wooded area. During a physical struggle, Deputy Conley opened fire, killing Jackson. Jackson was airlifted to the University of Cincinnati Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. Deputy Conley was treated for minor injuries at Meadowview Regional Medical Center and was subsequently placed on administrative leave, per department policy.

On March 29, 2021, Springfield Police Department officers responded to a reported shooting at the Bass Pro call center on East Kearney Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered 33-year-old Troy Rapp deceased from gunshot wounds. Witnesses identified 28-year-old Joshua A. Anderson as the shooter. Anderson fled the scene, leading to a police pursuit that ended when Anderson crashed his vehicle near Glenstone Avenue and Kearney Street. Officers found Anderson with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he died from his injuries on April 1, 2021.

On March 27, 2021, at the Oklahoma County Jail located at 201 North Shartel Avenue in Oklahoma City, inmate Curtis Montrell Williams, aged 34, took a detention officer hostage on the 10th floor. Williams held a makeshift weapon to the officer's throat, leading to a standoff. Oklahoma City Police Department officers, including Lt. Coy Gilbert and Officer Kevin Kuhlman, responded to the situation. Upon entering the pod, they observed Williams threatening the officer's life. On 03/26/2021, around 6: 10 a.m., Massachusetts State Police responded to a robbery at a 7-Eleven located at 30 Liberty St. in Quincy. Surveillance footage showed a man, identified as Eric Michael Leach, looking through the store's windows before entering six minutes later, allegedly robbing the store with a handgun and escaping with approximately $330. A customer provided a description of Leach to the police. Officers began a search and cornered Leach against a fence in a residential area. Leach reportedly did not comply with police commands, and an attempt to use a Taser was unsuccessful. A foot chase ensued, during which Leach entered a police cruiser, started it, and drove towards officers, who dodged out of the way. He fled, hitting several police vehicles during the pursuit. The chase ended at Burgin Parkway and Route 3 where Leach stopped the cruiser, which was then surrounded by police. After about an hour, Leach managed to move the damaged cruiser but was stopped by stop sticks. During negotiations, Leach was seen with a police patrol rifle and began exiting the vehicle with it, leading to a Massachusetts State Police trooper shooting and killing him.

On March 24, 2021, U.S. Marshals and other law enforcement officers arrived at a residence in the 1700 block of Regent Avenue NE in Canton, Ohio, to apprehend 33-year-old Aaron Pierre Thomas, who was wanted for armed robbery and aggravated assault in Danville, Virginia.

Thomas allegedly attempted to escape through a window before exiting the front door and opening fire on the officers. During the exchange, a U.S. Marshal was injured. Officers opened fire, striking Thomas. Both the injured officer and Thomas were transported to a nearby hospital. On March 21, 2021, at approximately 7:19 p.m., deputies from the Chaves County Sheriff's Office went to a property on 6400 Shadow Road in Dexter, New Mexico, to serve Sergio Gutierrez Chairez, 31, with two outstanding arrest warrants. Upon arrival, deputies observed Chairez outside the residence but were unable to enter due to a locked gate and fencing.

On March 18, 2021, deputies from the Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office arrived at 14554 Pecan Road in Keithville, Louisiana, to execute an arrest warrant for an individual other than William "Billy" Walls, a 68-year-old male. Walls, a neighbor, permitted deputies to search his mobile home. During the search, Walls became agitated and attempted to re-enter his residence. On 03/18/2021, officers from the Bloomington Police Department responded around 6: 15 p.m. to a report of a man walking with a gun. They found Anton Lamont Burnes firing a handgun from a pedestrian bridge. A Bloomington officer fired his service weapon at Burnes, but it was not immediately clear whether he was struck by the gunfire. Burnes continued shooting his handgun from the bridge for the next 10 minutes, but police did not return fire. Burnes eventually climbed outside the bridge's safety fencing and shot himself, falling onto I-494 below and dying.
