On 06/03/2021, around 2: 10 p.m., the U.S. Marshals Service, along with assistance from the Minneapolis Police Department, Hennepin County Sheriff's Office, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, attempted to arrest Winston Smith Jr. on a state warrant for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Smith, who was in a parked car, was reportedly uncooperative and produced a handgun. The officers shot and killed him.
