On November 17, 2021, officers from the Waynesboro Police Department were dispatched to the 700 block of Wayne Street due to a report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, they encountered Sylvester Tart, who had locked himself inside a closet. When instructed to surrender, Tart began shooting through the door. Police shot and killed him.
