On May 3, 2021, police were in pursuit of Eric Smith, who was wanted for kidnapping and double homicide. During the encounter on I-10 in Biloxi, gunfire was exchanged between Smith and law enforcement officers. Tragically, during this exchange, baby La'Mello Parker was also shot and killed by police gunfire.
