On October 23, 2021, officers from the Fort Belknap Police Department attempted a traffic stop on Clayburn Elwood Grant in Hays, Montana and escalated a chase during it was reported that Grant displayed a weapon. Police shot and killed him. Grant's brother had also been killed by police in 2019.
