On 11/06/2021, police were executing a warrant related to a homicide investigation at 274 Chelsea Avenue in Long Branch, New Jersey. Mark D. Walker II, 34, moved into a room of the apartment and shot one of the officers in the lower leg as they approached the room. The officers retreated outside, and Walker barricaded himself inside. Around 2 a.m., a fire broke out in the apartment. Walker fled the building, discharging a gun as he exited. Officers Eric Voorand (Manalapan Township Police Department), Daniel Murphy (Howell Township Police Department), and Omar Akel (Middletown Township Police Department) shot and killed Walker.
