Tortugita was camping in Weelaunee Forest, the contested site outside of Atlanta where the large“Cop City” training facility is being built. On 01/18/2023, a militarized response by Atlanta police and SWAT arrived and executed Tortugita in his tent. An officer was shot in the abdomen and Tortugita was blamed for firing shots which eyewitnesses vehemently denied. When a BWC video was released later, an officer is overheard commenting that the officer who was shot was likely shot by police friendly fire, not Tortugita as had been claimed by police. Additionally, private autopsy conducted by the family revealed that Tortugita had been shot through both hands as he held them up defensively, speaking against the police claim that he was holding and firing a gun when shot.No officers were charged. The police investigation has been unforthcoming in transparency and accountability.

On Jan. 18, police responded to the 4700 block of North Locust Street just before 2 a.m. in reference to a disturbance with a weapon. When officers arrived, they said they found Smith locked in his home with a weapon.
Officials with the NLRPD and Special Operations Units set a perimeter around the home. Police said that Smith then fired shots from inside the home and tried to leave his home, pointing a firearm at officers. This caused one NLRPD officer to fire their gun at Smith with Smith retreating back inside the house.
NLRPD SWAT Team then entered the home and found Smith dead. NLRPD officials said that it is unknown if Smith was killed by police or if was self-inflicted.No officers were charged.

Sonny Vincent, 36, was killed after officers with St. Charles County’s Multi-Jurisdictional Auto Theft Task Force tried to stop the car Vincent was in in the area of I-70 and Hwy 79 late Tuesday night because it was reported stolen in St. Louis County.
Police said they then used spike strips near Hwy 70 and Hwy Z in an attempt to stop the vehicle and Vincent continued westbound on Hwy 70 until the car left the roadway and came to a stop.
Two people got out of the car and according to the St. Charles Multi-Jurisdictional Auto Theft Task Force and claimed that Vincent pointed a gun in the direction of officers as he crossed West Pearce Blvd. Two task force shooters fired shots, killing Vincent. No officers were charged.

A Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy on patrol stopped at 10 p.m. to check on a vehicle parked near the intersection of County Road Q and County Road B, smelled marijuana, and the driver drove off. The deputy escalated a chase and alleges they lost sight of the vehicle near State Highway 12 and County Road G until they came upon smoke in the curve on County Road G and found the car crashed with signs that it had rolled over several times. Agustin Flores died. No officers were charged.

Salt Lake City Police Department’s Gang Unit was investigating someone with a felony warrant and requested SLCPD patrol officers to help with a traffic stop. Officers claim they gave repeated orders to everyone in the car to exit. Body worn camera video recorded sounds of Halai reversing and hitting a parked car and fleeing. Police used spike strips. Halai continued driving. Halai then crashed head-on into an empty parked truck near 500 North Star Crest Drive. Halai got out and ran south towards a house. An officer deployed a taser and two other officers fired shots. Halai fled into a home through a ground-level window. A third SLCPD officer fired additional rounds prior to fully entering the home.Several officers entered the home through the window, front door and garage. Officers found Halai injured inside the home’s living quarters and found him and two people who were living in the home in the same room. Halai died on Saturday January 21, 2023.No officers were charged.

Arkansas State Troopers and the North Little Rock Police Department on January 12th around 8:22 p.m. tried to make a traffic stop on an allegedly stolen Kia in the area of 2700 McArthur Drive. The Bexar County Sheriff's Office on January 12 initiated a high-speed chase resulting in a fatal crash that happened on Military Drive West just before 1 a.m. after a traffic safety unit pulled over a vehicle driving over 60 mph in a 35 mph zone. The deputy alleges he saw drugs in plain view when he approached the passenger side which the driver said were prescription drugs. The driver also voluntarily told deputies that he had a gun. He allegedly refused to get out of the car and drove away at high speed as the traffic stop worsened. Deputies escalated a chase and the driver lost control, crashed into a pole, then a U-Haul truck and flipped his vehicle onto its side. The crash caused the driver to be ejected and he was pronounced dead.
