On December 22, 2021, a New York State Police trooper responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic dispute at 3 Lyons Street in Unadilla, New York. Upon entering the residence, the trooper encountered Mark Anthony Beilby Jr., 24, who was reportedly armed with a knife.

Beilby allegedly confronted the trooper with the weapon and failed to comply with commands to disarm. He advanced toward the officer, prompting the trooper to discharge their firearm, fatally striking Beilby.
