OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On October 29, 2021, at approximately 10:25 p.m., officers from the Town of Montgomery Police Department and Village of Walden Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting an erratic driver. The vehicle, a 2018 Jeep Wrangler operated by JoAnn B. Schields, 52, was observed on Main Street in Walden, New York. Walden Police conducted a traffic stop, but as officers approached the vehicle, Schields fled the scene.

During the subsequent pursuit, Schields's vehicle collided head-on with a 2013 Toyota Rav4 on NY-52. The collision resulted in the deaths of both Schields and the driver of the Toyota, Elizabeth Bello, 35. Two passengers in the Toyota, ages 16 and 6, sustained injuries.
