OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On October 29, 2021, at approximately 10:25 p.m., officers from the Town of Montgomery Police Department and Village of Walden Police Department responded to a 911 call reporting an erratic driver. The vehicle, a 2018 Jeep Wrangler operated by JoAnn B. Schields, 52, was observed on Main Street in Walden, New York. Walden Police conducted a traffic stop, but as officers approached the vehicle, Schields fled the scene.

During the subsequent pursuit, Schields's vehicle collided head-on with a 2013 Toyota Rav4 on NY-52. The collision resulted in the death of the Rav4’s driver, Elizabeth Bello, 35. Two passengers in the Toyota, ages 16 and 6, sustained injuries. Schields was also killed in the crash.
