On March 30, 2021, the driver of a Jeep, identified as 19-year-old Jalen T. Alexander, failed to stop when officers from the Troy Police Department attempted a traffic stop. A high-speed pursuit ensued, during which officers deployed stop sticks in an attempt to disable the vehicle.

The chase continued until the Jeep collided with a Volkswagen at the intersection of US-40 and OH-202 in Huber Heights, Ohio. Both Alexander, the pursued driver, and the 32-year-old Volkswagen driver, Chelsey Vollmer, were killed. A passenger in the Jeep, as well as a bystander in the Volkswagen, sustained severe injuries.
