OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On March 16, 2021, at approximately 8:27 a.m., Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers observed a green 2010 BMW 528 traveling westbound on Interstate 80 at 94 mph near Lordstown, Ohio. Troopers attempted a traffic stop, but the driver continued driving. Police escalated a chase that exceeded speeds of 100 mph and was temporarily halted during a construction zone. After the vehicle passed the construction area, the chase resumed.
.
The vehicle continued onto State Route 8 South and then turned west onto Boston Mills Road. Due to the terrain, curved roads, and high speeds, troopers allege they canceled the chase again. The vehicle then veered off the left side of the road, struck a guardrail, rolled over, and came to rest partially down an embankment.
.
Ramon Smith, 22, and Ari'onna Nevaeh Taylor, 16, were pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital.
