On 01/08/2025, Dillon Siebeck, 46, was shot and killed by officers from the Glendale Police Department in a case of mistaken identity during a domestic violence call investigation in Horizon Park in Glendale, Arizona. Officers were searching for a separate suspect described in relation to a domestic violence report when they encountered Siebeck, who was unarmed and not connected to the reported incident. According to court filings, police commanded him to approach but a series of shots were fired, striking Siebeck. He was unarmed and was later confirmed not to be the suspect officers were seeking. Nor were any weapons found on his person after the shooting. The City of Glendale and officers involved are now defendants in a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Siebeck’s family, alleging excessive force, failure to render aid, and other claims. One officer involved has since been terminated by the Glendale Police Department, and the lawsuit names the city and two officers as defendants. Prosecutors previously declined to file criminal charges in the case.
