OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
According to reports, officers responded to a call regarding a person armed with a knife making threats inside a home on the 1900 block of Canvasback Drive. Upon arrival, they encountered Lewis, who was armed with a large knife. Despite attempts to de-escalate the situation, Lewis allegedly charged at the officers, prompting one officer to discharge his firearm, striking Lewis. Lewis was transported to Northeast Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.The Missouri State Highway Patrol's Division of Drug and Crime Control is conducting an independent investigation into the incident. The Kirksville Police Department has released body camera footage related to the shooting, which can be viewed below.
