Escambia County deputies chased a vehicle they felt to be tied to a previous shooting. The vehicle did not stop and police attacked it with a PIT maneuver, disabling it. Three males ran from the vehicle and jumped over the bridge into the water. A 20-year-old man died on impact.

Otero County deputies found a teenager walking on the median of a highway with an airsoft gun replica. Police allege he pointed it at them. They shot and killed him. He was found to have been hit by 15 bullets on autopsy.

Jennefer Arellano-Maldonado was chased by police for driving an allegedly stolen car. She crashed into a Baptist church that was charred from a fire that had occurred days prior when her boyfriend fled from police and crashed into the church which caused a fire. It is unknown whether it was a coincidence that his girlfriend died in a police chase crash at the exact same place where he had been killed just days prior.

Javontae Brice allegedly shot and killed 3 women, among them his mother, and had fled to Florida. Police caught up with him in Hamilton County and tried to approach him when he stopped at a service station. Police engaged in a shootout and killed him. Chicago PD believed David Curry had hit a woman with a gun on a previous occasion and when they saw him, they began a foot chase. During the foot chase, police allege that he stopped and they accidentally ran into him, knocking him down. COPA released the bodycam which shows the officer violently pushing him and a bystander confronting police, commenting “you did not have to slam him like that.” Curry is seen to lose consciousness with blood pouring from his head. He died from the head injury later in the hospital.

Richard Viscarra Jr. was a navy vet with PTSD who on previous occasions needed mental health help. Police were aware of this and Viscarra’s wife called them because he was exacerbated again and threatened self-harm. Police arrived, saw him with a knife and shot and killed him. The wife states that he had pointed the knife only at himself and was not a threat to police.

Frank Rodriguez allegedly choked and hit a woman and also attacked a nearby unhoused man but was reportedly unarmed and throwing punches. When police arrived, both Rodriguez and the woman were in his vehicle. The woman told police multiple times that she was fine. A mother and son leaving a Dollar Tree parking lot died when a police chase crashed into them. Two hours after the crash, the officer driving had been taken to the hospital, and a man named Michael Hawkins was found in the backseat of the police vehicle. Police initially did not know who he is and how he had gotten into the police car. The police vehicle was reported to be speeding excessively without lights or sirens.

The man in the backseat who was identified as Michael Hawkins was paralyzed from this crash. A lawsuit for this injury was filed against the city. His caretaker had called 911 because of his unusual behavior and he was led to the police car. Police still have not explained why he was in the back of the police car when it sped off on an unrelated call, crashed, killed 2 people and injured Hawkins who was not discovered injured in the police vehicle until hours later. Police are not allowed to take a second call while they have not completed the call they are on and the officer was obligated not to chase the second vehicle but conclude the first call which would have prevented the 2 fatalities and caused Mr. Hawkins to be paralyzed from the waist down and remain on life support as of 07/17/2024, the time of this update.
