On 06/14/2025 at approximately 11:58 p.m., Ogle County Sheriff's deputies and Polo Police officers responded to a hostage situation at a residence on the 500 block of West Mason Street in Polo, Illinois. According to police, 19-year-old Joshua M. Conway had taken hostages inside the home and shot one person before law enforcement arrived. Some hostages managed to escape the residence prior to police entry. Officers later entered and found Conway dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The individual he shot was also found deceased inside the home.

On 06/14/2025 at approximately 11:58 p.m., Ogle County Sheriff’s deputies and Polo Police officers responded to a hostage situation at a residence on the 500 block of West Mason Street. Inside, officers found 19-year-old Joshua M. Conway had taken hostages and shot at least one person. Conway died from a self-inflicted gunshot when officers entered, and 29-year-old Michael C. Gul was found deceased, having been shot inside the home. Michael Gul had been a part-time Park District employee in Buffalo Grove and Des Plaines, Illinois, and was set to serve as a summer camp supervisor. According to a GoFundMe created by family, he is survived by a wife and two young children and was described as a caring father whose death was “a cruel and senseless act of violence.”

On 06/13/2025, Polk County Sheriff’s deputies arrived at a property at 123 West Frostproof Baptist Church Road to execute an arrest warrant for an individual. During the operation, deputies encountered Francisco Garcia Vega, 53, who was the brother of the wanted individual. On 06/13/2025, Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to apprehend 25-year-old Christopher Clyde Valentine Jr. at a home on Birch Street in Macon, Georgia. Groton and Connecticut State Police located their getaway vehicle parked behind the motel by 5 p.m. They established a perimeter around the room where the Fallons were found. The pair claimed to be armed with firearms and explosives, triggering a 12-hour standoff, evacuation of guests, and deployment of SWAT and bomb technicians. Police communicated attempts were made through the door. At approximately 11:05 p.m., two gunshots sounded inside the room. A drone reconnaissance confirmed both men had been shot.
