On 11/23/2024, around 12:30 a.m., Jahmeke Patrick-Gause, 31, of Little River, South Carolina, was driving a 2007 Acura east on S.C. 90 when police escalated a chase for unknown reasons near North Myrtle Beach. With police chasing him, his vehicle left the road near Princeton Drive and struck a tree. Patrick-Gause, the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced deceased at the scene. It remains unclear why he was pursued.

On November 22, 2024, at approximately 9:50 p.m., the Floyd County Sheriff's Office requested assistance from the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office to serve arrest warrants on 52-year-old Charles H. Woodall. The warrants included charges of entering auto, rape, and incest. Authorities determined that Woodall was staying at a residence off Ficklen Church Way near Canton, Georgia.

Just after 11:00 p.m., deputies from both sheriff's offices approached the residence to serve the warrants. Woodall was armed and pointed a gun at the deputies. The Cherokee Multi-Agency SWAT Team responded to assist with the apprehension. Despite negotiation efforts lasting nearly an hour, Woodall refused to disarm and continued to aim his weapon at law enforcement officers. Deputies then shot Woodall. After the shooting, deputies administered aid until Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services arrived and pronounced Woodall dead at the scene.

Tony Garcia, a 70-year-old Latino man, was arrested for the 1981 murders of Rachel Zendejas and Lisa Gondek. While in custody at Todd Road Jail, Garcia was assaulted multiple times by inmates.
