NYPD was conducting an undercover narcotics buy-bust sting and set up Eric Duprey, alleging he had made a small drug sale. Eric Duprey left on his scooter. NYPD undercover agent Erik Duran who was in plainclothes and not identified as police, picked up a 40-pound ice cooler he had taken away from a picnicking family that was filled with cold drinks and threw it at Duprey’s head, striking him in the face, allegedly shattering his skull, knocking him off the scooter and slamming him into a tree where he died. He was unarmed. His family is adamant that they were on the phone before and during his death and that he had only been passing through because he was a bike food delivery worker. His wife was not informed of the death and police refused to give her any information when she learned of it. His mother in Puerto Rico who had been on the phone with him when he was killed is demanding justice and questioning NYPD’s recital of events.
