Daniel Prisco, an 18-year-old male, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Harding Place facility on September 19, 2023. An autopsy revealed that he died from acute fentanyl toxicity. At the time of his death, Prisco was under indictment and awaiting trial on charges of two counts of felony aggravated assault and two counts of felony reckless endangerment.

Following the investigation, Metro Nashville Police (MNPD) arrested several individuals involved in a conspiracy to smuggle drugs into the jail system, ultimately leading to Prisco's death. Among the arrested were inmates and a former correctional officer. Former correctional officer Charles Kelley, 23, who was employed by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, was charged in connection to Prisco’s death. Kelley, who had been working as a correctional officer since February, was indicted for conspiracy to commit second-degree murder, fentanyl delivery conspiracy, and delivering contraband into a penal facility. He was arrested on Thursday night, and immediately terminated by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office.
