OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :

On the evening of 07/28/2021, Keizer police attempted to stop a stolen vehicle in Keizer, Oregon. The driver, later identified as Sean K. Beck, 47, fired at officers and then fled in the stolen Nissan Xterra, continuing through Keizer and into Salem. While fleeing police, Beck drove the vehicle at high speed and struck a pedestrian,later identified as 64-year-old Salem resident Becky Dietzel, causing her death at the intersection of River Road and Cummings Street. Beck continued to evade officers for more than two minutes, at points exchanging gunfire with them, before police used a PIT maneuver to stop him and took him into custody. Beck was later charged with multiple felonies related to the chase and the death of Dietzel. This was not a police shooting of Dietzel; she was killed by the suspect’s vehicle during the pursuit.
