On January 14, 2025, around 12:15 a.m., San Antonio Police attempted to stop a vehicle driven by Leo Pinero during a narcotics investigation. The vehicle continued driving, prompting police to deploy their helicopter, EAGLE, while simultaneously sending ground units in pursuit. The chase continued until Pinero lost control of his vehicle in the 600 block of Pyron Avenue, crashing into a concrete guardrail and fatally striking a bystander woman. Pinero and a passenger fled on foot, but Pinero was apprehended nearby and charged with murder and evading arrest. The investigation is ongoing.
