On 01/13/2025, the Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office responded to a 911 call from 43-year-old ChartaraLaverta Courtney regarding a domestic dispute in the Providence Manor subdivision near Hammermill Drive in Harrisburg, North Carolina. Deputies arrived, upon which 47-year-old Willie Lawrence Wimbley shot Courtney in the driveway. He then allegedly fired at deputies. Deputies opened fire and killed him. Both Courtney and Wimbley were pronounced deceased in the driveway. Police stated that Wimbley died from suicide. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into the incident.
