On October 10, 2024, at approximately 5:58 p.m., 48-year-old inmate Roxanne E. Otero was found unresponsive in her cell at the Bexar County Adult Detention Center in San Antonio, Texas. Her cellmate alerted a unit officer, who immediately initiated life-saving measures and requested medical assistance. Despite these efforts, Otero was pronounced dead at 6:39 p.m. Preliminary investigations suggest that she experienced a medical episode exacerbated by detoxing conditions. Otero had been booked into the facility on October 7, 2024, charged with possession of a controlled substance (4-200 grams), with her bond set at $15,000. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death. In compliance with the Sandra Bland Act, the Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office is leading the death investigation, while the Bexar County Sheriff's Office Internal Affairs Unit is conducting an administrative review.
