According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, on January 20, 2025, a Georgia State Patrol trooper attempted to detain a driver during a traffic stop on Interstate 85 in Coweta, Georgia. The trooper engaged the driver in a confrontation during which the man allegedly displayed a weapon. The trooper opened fire and killed him.
