On 09/02/2021, 44-year-old John C. Vos Jr. died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside a Wilson Avenue residence during a several-hour police tactical operation involving Sandy Township police, DuBois City police and Pennsylvania State Police.

Police received information about Vos's location at approximately 10 a.m. and surrounded the residence. Vos was wanted after being named days earlier in one of six related federal indictments involving an alleged California-to-Western Pennsylvania methamphetamine trafficking operation.

Federal prosecutors alleged that Vos conspired to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine and possessed 50 grams or more with intent to distribute on 10/21/2020.

The police operation continued for several hours. When officers eventually entered the residence, they found Vos dead. Police stated that Vos had killed himself before officers made contact with him. Clearfield County Coroner Kim Shaffer-Snyder was called to the scene at 5:04 p.m.

Shaffer-Snyder determined that Vos died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. An autopsy was conducted the following morning.
