OPEN RECORDS SUMMARY :
On June 15, 2024, Juan Moreno-Hernandez, a 36-year-old Latino male, was found unresponsive in his cell at the Bexar County Jail in San Antonio, Texas. He and another inmate, a 50-year-old man, were discovered during a routine observation by a deputy at approximately 11:15 p.m. Medical staff administered Narcan to counteract a suspected substance ingestion. Despite efforts, Moreno-Hernandez was pronounced dead at 11:36 p.m.
Authorities suspect that both inmates consumed an unidentified substance, leading to a medical episode. The second inmate regained consciousness after receiving Narcan and was transported to a hospital for further treatment. The Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office is conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death.
The Bexar County Precinct 2 Constable’s Office is leading the death investigation in compliance with the Sandra Bland Act, with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Internal Affairs Unit conducting a concurrent administrative investigation.
